Late 2016, with Santa just around the corner, Google released an message extension for Google AdWords which further appeals to the increasing number of users who browse on smart phones.
This extension is called the messages extension or, for the more literal, click to text message extension, and if you’re not using it yet here is why your business should be using it.
How Google Message Extension Works
Before we go into why you should use it, let’s discuss how the messaging extension works.
Users can text your business directly from the ad!
Like other ad extensions such as reviews and location extensions, the message extension shows alongside your eligible ads. Viewers will see a button with an icon that indicates users can text you.
The message on this button is set by you and in our experience shorter, active statements work best.
When users click the button, they are redirected to their text messaging app on their phone where a pre-populated message, set by you, will show to send you a text.
Now you can have a conversation with users via text!
Problems with the Google Message Ad Extension
Our digital agency, ezerus, have been using the message extension for a few of our clients and have seen great results. Ads that use the messaging extension have higher click through rates in comparison to other ads and generally perform better.
Not all businesses have a text capable number
